Norton Thoracic Institute has been saving lives through lung transplantation since 2007. At that time, St. Joseph's operated the only lung transplant program in the entire state of Arizona. Since then the program has achieved status as the No. 1 lung transplant program in the Southwest and the nation, outperforming some of the most renowned hospitals in the country, including the Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins and the University of California, San Francisco.

The institute was named after St. Joseph's most generous benefactors, John and Doris Norton, who donated an historic and transformational $19-million gift to the hospital in 2014. With their donation and the ongoing generosity of the community, along with the expertise of physicians and nurses, Norton Thoracic Institute has achieved national and worldwide acclaim for transplant and pulmonary care.
