Excellence in Cancer Care

The Comprehensive Cancer Center at St. Joseph’s

The second opinion clinic would be located at St. Joseph’s Comprehensive Cancer Center , which offers patients services including state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment, genetic counseling, diet assessment, patient navigator, and clinical trials. The Center’s staff includes experts in lung, brain, breast, gynecological, gastrointestinal, and bladder and prostate cancer.

Among the Center’s many services are the following:

  • Clinical trials of promising new treatments.
  • Free outpatient dietician visits, providing assessments, meal planning, and follow-up.
  • Genetics Risk Assessment Program, staffed by a licensed genetics counselor.
  • Infusion suite where patients receive chemotherapy, medical infusion, blood transfusion and hydration in a comfortable setting. It is the area’s only outpatient center that allows patients to have a relative or friend with them during treatment.
  • Interventional oncology services available only at large academic hospitals. Services include thermal ablation, embolization, targeted radiation, and local injections of chemicals to occlude blood flow to the tumor.
  • Monthly support groups, including The Face in the Mirror Foundation for Women with Cancer, Grief Support Group, and groups for specific cancers—prostate, bladder, brain, breast, lung, and colorectal.
  • Multidisciplinary care provided by nationally recognized experts. The Center provides medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, and other disciplines. Surgeons at the center are experts in the daVinci robot, video-assisted thoroscopy, transanal endoscopic microsurgery, neurosurgery, minimally invasive image-guided breast surgery, oncoplastic breast cancer surgery, and sentinel lymph node biopsy.
  • Pain Management Program and Palliative Care Program to help inpatients deal with illness in comfort and with dignity. Both programs are directed by a physician.
  • Stereotactic radiotherapy that uses precisely focused radiation beams to destroy tumors while sparing surrounding normal tissue. St. Joseph’s offers the Southwest’s only Gamma Knife and CyberKnife, along with high-dose remote brachytherapy, intensive modulated radiation therapy, and image-guided radiation therapy.
