Surgical Director for the Center for Thoracic Disease
Ross M. Bremner, M.D, Ph.D, Chief of Thoracic Surgery, was hired by St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in January 2006. Dr. Bremner completed his medical school training in South Africa at the University of Witwatersrand where he graduated magna cum laude and received the Harwood Nash Memorial medal for surgery. He then completed his general surgery training at USC, Los Angeles, during which time he also completed his PhD.
During his residency he received multiple awards for teaching and research and pioneered a new ultrasonic technique for removal of Barrett’s esophagus. He went on to complete his cardiothoracic training at USC after which he joined the facility as Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery where he was Director of the Hastings Thoracic Oncology laboratory where his primary interest is in the pathogenesis of metastasis and the treatment of early lung cancer. His main interests are minimally invasive thoracic surgery, thoracic oncology, and lung transplantation.
