Group raises funds to build family-friendly patient rooms
Angelita's Amigos is the winner of the 2009 Arizona Cardinals Community Quarterback Award, which includes a $10,000 gift. Bob and Joann Olivas, founders of Angelita's Amigos, were surprised and elated by the award.
The competition drew 63 entries this year. Six finalists were introduced during ceremonies to announce the winner. Angelita's Amigos was introduced last to a cheering crowd of more than 60,000 and Michael Bidwell presented the check to the Olivases.
"This award is so deserved!" says Mary Jane Crist, CEO of St. Josephs's Foundation. "Angelita's Amigos has greatly improved the lives of many hospitalized children at St. Joseph's Hospital."
Angelita's Amigos raises funds to build family-friendly patient rooms at St. Joseph's for children with chronic and often terminal illnesses. The Olivases founded Angelita's Amigos in 1988 to honor their daughter Angela Grace, who died of leukemia when she was four.
