Drive Me Safe offers free child seat safety checks, installations
In Maricopa County, more than 85 percent of child safety seats are use incorrectly or not used at all. St. Joseph's is working to combat these statistics with the Drive Me Safe Car Seat Check Station. Located on the hospital campus in the Third Avenue Parking Garage, the car seat check station is open to anyone who wants to learn how to install child car seats, including infant carriers, convertible seats, combination seats, boosters, and seat belts.
"Our job is to teach the entire family to travel safely," says Brandyn Speckman, community education specialist. "Properly installed child safety seats reduce the risk of death of infants in passenger cars by 71 percent, and for toddlers ages one to four the reduction is 54 percent."
To schedule an appointment, call St. Joseph's Resource Link at 1-877-602-4111.
"You'll learn how to properly install you child safety seat and best protect your child in a crash," says Brandyn.
