St. Joseph’s Foundation elects new leadership
The St. Joseph’s Foundation recently elected a new chairman and several new members to the Board of Trustees.
Michelle M. Matiski was elected chairman of the board. Matiski is head of the corporate legal group at Aetna. She has worked as an attorney for more than 30 years with a focus on corporate growth and finance, and mergers and acquisitions. Matiski earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Minnesota and a juris doctorate from Northwestern University. She has actively served in leadership and advisory roles for several community organizations including State Bar of Arizona, Phoenix Body Positive, Ballet Arizona and the Camelback Mountain Chapter of National Charity League. For 10 years, she was Girl Scout leader for her triplet daughters’ troop.
The board also elected the following officers:
- Hamilton Espinosa of Phoenix, vice chairman, Director of Healthcare at DPR Construction
- Shelby Butterfield of Paradise Valley, secretary, community volunteer
- Richard A. Horn of Paradise Valley, treasurer, retired Petsmart executive

- C.A. Howlett, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs at U. S. Airways
- Linda Hunt, Sr. Vice President of Operations, Catholic Healthcare West Arizona and President/CEO of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center
- David C. McCaleb, retired biotech executive
- Jacquelyn M. Michelson, community volunteer
- Jeff Morhet, Chairman of the Board and CEO of InNexus Biotechnology, Inc.
- Craig S. Porter, President Renaissance Companies
- Jorge Quintero, President and Owner of QCM Technologies, Inc.
- Lee Rosenthal, President of Puresports Properties
- Joanne Springrose, retired IBM saleswoman
St. Joseph’s Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for research, medical education and patient education at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. The Foundation is governed by a board of trustees made up of community leaders who serve on a voluntary basis. St. Joseph’s Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds in support of the healing mission of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. A board of directors, made up of community leaders who serve on a voluntary basis, governs St. Joseph’s Foundation.
A board member offers expertise and experience from a variety of fields and lends prestige to the organization. Specifically, board members contribute to the stewardship and fund-raising effectiveness of the foundations in several areas including: helping to plan and organize its fund-raising strategy, insuring that funds entrusted to the foundations are managed in a prudent manner and allocated according to the wishes of donors, and making a personal financial commitment to the institution.
Enthusiasm on the part of board members is essential to the Foundation’s ultimate success. Board members serve as advocates of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and the Barrow Neurological Institute in the community.
