REMEMBERING DEBORAH LOFGREEN
1945 - 2024

Born in Holdrege, Nebraska, Deb was an energetic and multifaceted woman. In her youth, she was active in school and community endeavors, including participating on the city swim team, playing in the band and orchestra, baton twirling, and serving as head majorette. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Nebraska.
Deb dedicated most of her career to retail management, visual merchandising, and sales, notably becoming one of the first female managers in retail for Sherwin Williams Corp. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader with a lifelong love of learning. Deb had a deep passion for nurturing children and teens, teaching Sunday school and leading Christian education ministries. Full of life, competitive yet generous, and fiercely loyal to family and friends, Deb lived a remarkable life.

Deb suffered from severe COPD, and after some time, learned she needed a double lung transplant. On November 15, 2011, she received the gift of life at Norton Thoracic Institute.

Deb was passionate about many things, but she had particular empathy for her fellow transplant patients who cope with the effects of chronic, life-threatening illness and who must endure months of separation from their loved ones, extended disruption of their daily lives, exorbitant lifelong medication costs and loss of income at their time of greatest need.

During her transplant experience, Deb recognized the need for additional financial support for expenses incurred from rigorous pre- and post-transplant requirements, coupled with the high medication costs for these patients and their families. She expressed a desire to serve as an advocate to help patient families deal with these financial challenges.
