Pharmacist leaves legacy at St. Joseph’s

John Whittemore and his partner, Nicki

After 43 years as a pharmacist, 25 of which were dedicated to St. Joseph’s, John Whittemore hung up his lab coat in 2016 and entered retirement with no regrets. He loved his career and enjoyed his years at St. Joseph’s McAuley Pharmacy so much that he met other hospital retirees monthly for coffee (before COVID-19) and he also chose to leave a legacy at St. Joseph’s through planned giving.

Originally from New England, John graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy before landing in Arizona and working at the county hospital, now Valleywise Health Medical Center. From there, he was recruited to St. Joseph’s.

“It was one of the best things that ever happened to me,” says John, 71, who divides his time between Phoenix and Sedona with his girlfriend, Nicki. “I was always proud to work St. Joseph’s and was always treated very, very well.”
